WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN

God has given Jesus a name which is above every name (Philippians 2: 9). This is in answer to His moral worth and excellence, becoming obedient unto death. In Ephesians, as exalted, He is given to be Head over all things to the assembly, having in view the universe being secured and held for God. The assembly is associated with Him in His headship, as Eve was with Adam. Without her he could find “no helpmate, his like”, Genesis 2: 20. The Lord personally is greater than all that He has been given. “The Word was with God, and the Word was God”, John 1: 1, but as Man He has received from the Father, not only because of His own personal excellence but in view of God’s thoughts being fully secured. How great, then, this makes the assembly in our view as His fulness, His associate! The Lord is infinite for He fills all in all, but He has a consort, fruit of the Spirit’s service, who will be with Him in His headship over all things in the day that is to come. The world to come is the great subject of scripture, hence it is of this that we speak (Hebrews 2: 5).

While the Lord has been given glory—and how rightly—we have been given grace, which causes us to inherit glory. God is the great source of all, the giver, whether of glory or of grace.
