OUR ANCHOR
Acts 37: 39-44; Hebrews 6: 17-20
Their anchors they cast in the depths of the ocean,
They hoisted the foresail and made for the strand,
And all, notwithstanding the water’s commotion,
Both Paul and those with him came safely to land.
How often, our props and expedients removing,
God gives us to trust Him and carries us through!
So let us rely on His faithfulness, proving
What He in His infinite wisdom can do.
For human resources how often we hanker!
But let us henceforward on Jesus depend:
The hope set before us in Him is our anchor –
In Him our Forerunner, Redeemer and Friend.
For even eternity’s numberless ages
Could never completely His glories unfold:
No matter how fiercely the hurricane rages,
Secure in our Saviour our anchor will hold!
