GROWING CHILDREN
When Jesus was here He spoke to children very tenderly. This is seen in the case of the girl of twelve years, who fell ill and died. On raising her up to life the Lord used an affectionate word, "Damsel, I say to thee, Arise". He took her hand and she awoke and walked. It is interesting, that at the same age of twelve years, Jesus had been found in the Temple, hearing the teachers and asking them questions. Perhaps twelve years is a stage of development in childhood. In later years, when Jesus was risen and glorified, Peter wrote to believers that as new-born babes they should earnestly desire the "pure mental milk of the word".
The children growing up in the wilderness must have become well acquainted with manna as their daily food. For believers now this would mean seeking early thought about the Lord Jesus Christ and praying to Him. As a result of this there would be growth "by the true knowledge of God". When the time of the wilderness was over and the Israelites had come into the promised land of God 's purpose, they were blessed by being able to feed on '1he old corn of the land". This is Christ known in glory. As growth takes place it will lead to eating "the strong meat" of Paul 's ministry.
