SUBMISSION
S. J. B. Carter
With stubborn mind, all unsubdued,
wrestled long in wilful mood;
‘Lord, grant my wish’, I prayed, till life
Grew weary of the faithless strife
And yet I would not be denied;
Rebellious still, my lips still cried—
‘Lord, hear, my prayer, or let me die!’
But, No! the heavens gave no reply.
At length—subdued my groans and sighs—
I whispered soft, with tearful eyes;
‘Lord, not my will be done, but Thine’—
And instantly sweet peace was mine!
