THE MYSTERY
J. C. Evershed
Attend, my soul, to what is now unfolded,
But what through ages past was secret held
In God’s on purpose, ere the earth was moulded;
The mystery of His will unparalleled!
He now displays to those initiated
The way in which, in Christ, all things will head;
(Alike of earth as heaven so elevated)
For by His power He raised Him from the dead.
The Firstborn from the dead for aye now living
Has title over all the creature sphere,
But to His church, His body, all things giving
He is as Head now and for ever near.
Through suff’rings have such things been manifested,
Of Jesus first, in whom all fulness is—
And where the Father’s pleasure ever rested—
Then Paul rejoiced to serve the saints in his.
So in the church, the vessel without history,
Among the nations God has all displayed—
The riches of the glory of this mystery
Is Christ in us the hope of glory made!
