CHRIST AND THE ASSEMBLY

Thy voice, our God, in purpose we have heard,

Exalting Christ Thy well beloved Son—

‘It is not good for man to be alone’,

Th’assembly as His helpmate now is known.

We answer to Thy ways in discipline

To purify ourselves in love for Christ,

From that which claims but honours not His name,

Thus find rejection, loneliness, and shame.

We thank Thee, as we follow in this path

Of righteousness and faith and love and peace,

For others too who call upon the Lord

With willing hearts and answer to His word.

Thus true assembly feelings now are found

In moral features suited to our Lord;

The Spirit’s universal triumph seen

In hearts who on their Head together lean.
