PEGS AND CORDS Among the many parts of the tabernacle mentioned in Exodus 35 are “the pegs of the tabernacle, and the pegs of the court, and their cords”—small and humble items, but vital if the structure was to be kept firm and upright at all times and in all weathers. In a reading on this passage a brother remarked that if you could see much of a peg, it was not doing its job. A peg suggests out-of-sight faithfulness and stability—a brother or sister devoted to the Lord, and firm in the truth. The pegs were connected, some to the tabernacle and some to the pillars of the court, by cords—suggesting strong ties of love and faithfulness which sustain and strengthen what God has here in service and in testimony. Let us all be greatly concerned to be firmly fixed pegs, and supporting cords, and thus to “strengthen the things that remain”, Revelation 3: 2
