The Lord as coming into His garden (Song of Songs 5: 1) appreciates what is there for Him— so it is His myrrh, His honeycomb, and so on. We should each be able to bring myrrh, as did the woman in Luke 7, having an appreciation of His suffering love. The honeycomb would be the product of the activity of many, so we afford something for the Lord together which we could never provide alone. The appreciation of the inheritance suggested in the wine and milk would be for Him. Then we are His friends and He bids us eat, that is, to feed on Himself who was entirely devoted here to the will of God. This is truly food and it is expressed in the Supper. To “drink, yea, drink abundantly” suggests the wonderful wealth of divine love and favour into which we have been brought, the new covenant of which He is the Mediator. So we are His beloved ones—kindred to Him, His assembly and His confidantes. He would have us drink deeply into the fulness of divine love.
