DIVINE BLESSING—In Ephesians 1: 3 we are spoken of as “blessed … with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ”. One had not noted sufficiently the bearing of the preposition “with”. The sense is that these rich blessings have not just been placed upon us, but they involve that the believer is marked characteristically by something of the power and value of them. That must relate to the inward working of the Holy Spirit. How great this matter is; not only that we are so blessed, but that the Father has before Him those who are formed, substantially in accordance with what has been conferred upon them, and are thus able to respond richly to Him.

VALUING THE PROPHETIC WORD—After receiving the prophetic word from Nathan, David “went in and sat before Jehovah” (2 Samuel 7: 18). He is an example for us. If a word of prophecy comes to us—perhaps in a meeting for ministry, or in the reading of the scriptures—let us go in and sit before God. Let us reflect before Him on what He has said.

Let our hearts go out to Him in fresh response .in answer to some impression of His glory, some fresh touch as to His purposes and His ways, and the One in whom they all centre.

David here has profound impressions of the sovereign workings of God “for thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart” (2 Samuel 7: 21). He reviews the ways of God from Egypt onward and rises in a spirit of worship to God as the Same (see footnote to 2 Samuel 7: 28, in the Darby Translation).
