“WE, BEING MANY” (1 Corinthians 10: 17)

D. R. Freeman

“We, being many”—who are they

Who, in the Supper, thus are one?

Fruit of His death, who joyful own

Their debt to Him, God’s blessed Son?

“We, being many”—is this true

When scattered they throughout the world,

Of no account, despised and few,

With Satan’s power against them hurled?

Yes, till He comes, the church remains,

Her purpose and her prospect sure;

There rises still to Him above

That cry to greet Him even more.

“The many”—who can those forget

For whom their Lord Himself did die?

Though two or three their souls are set

With Him and all the saints on high.

United then at that last shout

When He, the Lord Himself, shall come,

Caught up “the many” then will be

To share with Him what He has won.
