DIVINE ASSURANCE Many of the Psalms reflect the simple, confiding relations which David enjoyed with Jehovah. In Psalm 35, written in a time of much adversity, he says to Him, “Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation”. With child-like simplicity he asks Jehovah to speak this word of comfort to him. How ready divine Persons are to give us such assurances, and at times of difficulty or extremity how precious it is to receive them. We can think of the word to Abram, “Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, thy exceeding great reward” (Genesis 15: 1); to Joshua, “As I was with Moses, so will I be with thee” (Joshua 1: 5), and to Paul, “Fear not … because I am with thee” (Acts 18: 9). What strength these words must have given to these great men, and we may experience the same reassurance as seeking to be here for the will of God in an adverse scene.
