MUSINGS

“I HAVE SET YOU”—The Lord said to His own (John 15: 16), “I have chosen you, and have set you that ye should go and that ye should bear fruit”. This verse is very comforting, particularly when, as seeking to be faithful to the Lord, we find ourselves in uncongenial, and testing circumstances. All is in His hand. He has chosen us, and He has set us according to His perfect love and wisdom. The very fact that He has done so proves the reality of His personal interest in each one.

And the object?—“That ye should ... bear fruit”. May we have grace to view our circumstances in this light, and to go through them with Him. These circumstances have been a matter of divine arrangement.so that in them fruit might be borne which could be produced in no other way.

“A MAN SHALL BE AS A HIDING-PLACE FROM THE WIND”—(Isaiah 32: 2) We were reminded of this scripture when walking along the crest of a range of hills. From the north-west a piercing blast was blowing. Then we dropped down a few feet on the eastern side. Immediately the wind dropped, the air was calm, and we sat in the genial warmth of the sun. In many ways we have to face the storm, but how good it is to know that the other side of the hill is always near. We can withdraw, perhaps for just a few moments, into the untroubled peace of the presence of Jesus, to prove afresh that a Man is our hiding place. Then we can again face the storm, comforted and strengthened.
