A CAPTURED HEART

H. T. Mutton

A captured heart; O Lord may this be mine,

Held fast in that eternal love of Thine—

No more to taste the joys of things below,

No more the sorrows of those joys to know.

A captured heart; what else, Lord, can it be

If I am finding all my joy in Thee?

If in Thine own pure love alone I find

My all-sufficient food for heart and mind?

A captured heart! Thou gav’st Thyself for me

That I might even now be fully free

From all that kept me from Thy loving side,

Be free to worship Thee who for me died.

A captured heart! O Lord I now can feed

Upon Thyself—Thou meetest all my need;

My heart, which this world’s joys before had tried,

Now with Thyself for ever satisfied.
