HEAVENLY TREASURE
A. McGregor
I have found a heavenly treasure
Far above my creature needs,
Filled to fulness beyond measure
And which all my thoughts exceeds.
Nothing earthly can there enter
Purest bliss without alloy
Fills the courts where is its dwelling,
And where all is truest joy.
For the Saviour is my portion,
There where He in glory shines,
And I know His heart beats for me
As His love, mine, there entwines.
From a poem written in 1894. Mr. Alistair McGregor wrote in 1961, ‘This poem was composed by my beloved father ... at a time, I believe, when my sister had to give up her studies on account of ill-health and return home at the age of 18 or 19. This was a very great disappointment to her, but I know she got the full gain of the exercise because not only were the words ‘I have’ found on the original copy of the poem in her own handwriting, but her subsequent life proved it to be so’.
