JESUS, MY SAVIOUR
W. E. Ellis
He came! He came! A Babe laid in a manger;
Grew up; a Child, a Boy, a Man indeed;
Down here in grace a lowly heavenly Stranger,
Delighting God and meeting every need.
Jesus my Saviour, Jesus my Friend,
Proving Thy grace, Lord, on Thee I do depend.
He died! He died!—O what a sad reflection
That wicked men have crucified God’s Son!
To God a sacrifice in full perfection,
For men sins borne, a place in glory won,
Jesus my Saviour, Jesus my Friend,
Deep were the depths, Lord, to which Thou didst descend.
He lives! He lives! A blessed Man in glory,
Raised from the dead by God’s almighty power,
Seated on high, O what a wondrous story
Of love for sinners, proved in death’s dark hour.
Jesus my Saviour. Jesus my Friend,
Living to Thee, Lord, my praises will ascend.
He comes! He comes! What joyful expectation!
The Lord will rapture all His own away,
The church’s hope then brought to realisation,
As with His saints He comes forth in display.
Jesus my Saviour, Jesus my Friend,
I may hear today, Lord, that call to ascend.
