“GO TO THE ANT ... ”—It was a wood ants’ nest by a woodland path that reminded us of Solomon’s two proverbs that call our attention to the ant (Proverbs 6; 6; 30: 25). Authorities say a colony may contain up to one hundred thousand ants. Certainly, thousands of ants were in constant movement as they went about their duties. In fact, as we listened, there was a steady, audible rustle of activity. The ‘worker’ ants

include tunnellers, road makers, guards, and food gatherers. Solomon’s proverbs show us that the ant is a divinely provided illustration of unselfish service. Not one of those insects was working for itself. Each was doing untiringly some particular work for the benefit of the whole colony. So let us learn the lessons taught through these little creatures. Let it be our concern to find out, and then to carry out, the place and service assigned to us by the Lord, for the good of all. Mr. Raven said—“Whatever function has been assigned to you in the body, be content to carry it out in simplicity, in the best way possible by the Spirit of God.

That is what it is to be here for the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. We may try and do great things when perhaps God has intended us to do small things. To be here for the will of God, and do small things in the best way is far safer and happier than trying to do great things so as to be conspicuous”, (F. E. Raven, N.S. Vol. 12, p.85)
