THE STEPS OF JESUS
Chris S Menzies
I like to think of the steps of Jesus, they are not in heaven; we have all known what it is to want to go to heaven; when we have dreaded facing the world, we have desired to be taken right out of it; but then the footsteps of Jesus are not in heaven: they are here - here in this wilderness. He has left us an example, and we are to follow in His steps. There is much time wasted; many opportunities have gone, and gone for ever, but then the little time that is left has not gone, and the steps of Jesus are still here. “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls”, 1 Pet 2: 22-25, KJV.
This pathway is open to us all, but we shall not be able to take it up unless we realise not only what the Lord has done for us, but what He has done to us. Do not think that any Christian is different from you; we all have the same weakness and the same tendencies - “the flesh profits nothing”; but what makes the difference is realising what the Lord has done to us, and answering to it.
“What have I done to thee?” Elijah said to Elisha; the Lord said to His own, “Know ye what I have done to you?” and Paul when writing to the Corinthians said, “in the power of one Spirit we have all been baptised into one body ... and have all been given to drink of one Spirit”, and that Spirit is the power a Christian needs to enable him to follow in His steps.
