“HAVING LAID HIS HANDS ON EVERY ONE OF THEM”—Mark 4: 40 records the affecting scene when, the sun having gone down, as many as had persons sick brought them to Jesus. It says, “Having laid his hands on every one of them, he healed them”. It was not a momentary touch, but a lingering handling of each one, conveying a divine wealth of love, compassion, and healing power. If, through grace, we have had such an experience with the Lord Jesus let us give thanks for it and rejoice in it. But when He laid His hands on you and on me it was not only to impart the assurance of forgiveness and healing, but to claim us unreservedly for Himself.

Have we yielded to His longing, and His right, to have us for His own pleasure and service? He died, Paul says, “That they who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who died for them and has been raised”, 2 Corinthians 5: 15. May we have a deepening consciousness of what the laying on of His hands means and, as yielding to it, be in the happy path of subjection to His will. Mark also tells us of the colt tied, and the word as to it was, “The Lord has need of it”, Mark 11: 3. He has drawn near to us not only because we needed Him, but because He needed us—amazing fact! He needs you for the most privileged part you could possibly have, the greatest dignity that could be conferred upon you—that your life and your all should be devoted to Him. He has a place for you, and the Holy Spirit is available to show you what it is and to enable you to fill it.
