EXTRACTS
The Lord says, “He will shew you things to come”. I think God would have our hearts to apprehend all that is before Him, “breadth and length, and depth, and height”. God would have us to be in the divine secret. There are two things necessary for us—the one, entering the holiest; the other, going over the land where you learn the expanse of all that which Christ is going to fill. I think the holiest is where you learn the secret of God. His resource—that is, Christ. Then, in going over the land, you get to know the expanse which He is going to fill; that answers to “things to come”.

Depend upon it the kingdom is the great bulwark, the light of Christianity. The church is very precious to Christ. His treasure here; the kingdom exists as a bulwark against evil whilst He is building His assembly.

In Old Testament times men were not in the presence of the love of God. I have no doubt the Old Testament saints knew, something of God as being rich in mercy, but it was impossible they could know Him in the satisfaction of His love. The reason is simple. The Object which alone could furnish satisfaction to the love of God was not yet revealed.
C.A.Coates (‘The Food of Life’, p.173).
How blessed it is.to sit down under the shadow of Christ in holy quietness with no thought of doing anything or being anything, but in rapture of soul to enjoy the blessedness of what God is; as made known through our Lord Jesus Christ! There is nothing like it. It is the highest happiness of which a creature could be capable.

“He that is greatest among you shall be your servant, and whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted”. You see what simple and yet what valuable instruction we have in these verses. However gifted, matured, or experienced I may be, my part is to be the least, to be the servant of all. Such is the divine way. One knows well enough what is in one’s own heart, one is as prone as anyone else to assume to be something, to acquire a reputation in the service of the Lord, and to sit on it as a little throne.
The Lord foresaw that, and He warns them against it. Exaltation comes from heaven; it is the divine prerogative to give it, not mine, nor yours.
J. Taylor (Vol. 25, p.331, 332)
Sonship, as has often been said, goes beyond eternal life; the fulness of the privilege of sonship leads us into heavenly places. They should not be confused. They are on parallel lines, to a certain extent, but sonship goes further. God is leading many sons to glory.
