MUSINGS
AM I A SINGER? Paul exhorts both the Ephesian and Colossian believers to be singers—
“Singing and chanting with your heart to the Lord”, Ephesians 5: 19.
It is a happy and healthy state of soul—a normal state—that produces singing. Paul was a singer. Amid the midnight darkness of the jail at Philippi there went up to heaven a rich harmony as Paul and Silas “in praying, were praising God with singing”, Acts 16: 25. What music continually goes up to heaven from the saints, in all parts of the earth, and in all kinds of circumstances, as the sound of thankful praise arises from hearts which joy in God and are full of Christ. Circumstances may be very testing, but they are not to rob us of the source of our joy—all that is in God, and in Christ, made real in the Holy Spirit’s power—so that from satisfied hearts goes up a note of thankful praise. May we each be constantly in it!
