REDEMPTION

C. Middleton

The christian, counting blessings that are his,

May learn how wonderful redemption is,

‘Redemption in Christ Jesus’ now is known

Because for him the Saviour did atone.

The judgment which he would have had to face

Is all removed since Jesus took his place,

And bore that solemn judgment in his stead,

And on the cross His precious blood was shed.

That blood that saved him from the judgment sword,

Ensures he’s now belonging to the Lord,

Bought with a price, no longer now his own,

No rights have any but the Lord alone.

Freedom from Satan’s power, the world, and sin,

The evil that’s without and what’s within;

The One who died for him and made him whole

Has now the right to have him in control.

Now God is free in all His thoughts to bless,

Which He can do in perfect righteousness,

And all accusing voices must be still—

He can with those redeemed do what He will.

The malefactor by the Saviour’s side

Learned what redemption meant ere Jesus died,

No power of evil then could bar the way

To be with Him in paradise that day.

And we now left to tread the path below,

The present power of redemption know,

Not of the world, nor yet are we our own,

We are the Lord’s—what joy when this is known.

That daily we can prove His gracious care

Until He comes and takes us to Him there,

With Him within the Father’s house above,

That is our place, prepared by Him in love.

Blessed with all blessings in the heavens above,

God thus effecting what He planned in love;

We thus know sonship’s wondrous place with God

Because “we have redemption through his blood”.
