THE CHILDREN'S SIGNS OF LIFE
A mother will agree that life in a new-born babe usually shows itself first by a cry. Perhaps it shares, without knowing it, in the sorrows of sin in the world. But the Lord Jesus spoke of being born anew which means that God begins in persons, often quite young, an entirely new kind of life. This helps to explain why children may sometimes feel uneasy and even unhappy when they begin to learn the gospel but do not yet know the Saviour. When Samuel was first aroused he became quite disturbed, but when he new the Lord he was at rest and listened to His word.
It may seem strange that the Scripture speaks of a boy sneezing seven times and then opening his eyes. He had died, but these were signs of new life. For the believer this is a beautiful picture of the way in which God works with power and perfection within is soul so that his eyes may be opened to see spiritual things anew and clearly.
The disciple, Mark, who wrote so much about "the way", tells us that when Jesus raised a girl of twelve e began to walk and was given food. We also have the exact words that the Lord spoke to her. You, as a child, may have heard something from Him that has made you know that by the Holy Spirit's help you can live and walk to God 's glory. For this, your soul will need the food of life which is Christ Himself.
The youth to whom Jesus said "Wake up", outside the city of Nain, sat up and began to speak. What wonderful signs of life by the power of the Son of God! Just what the youth said it must have been some answer to Jesus. Have you yet with your mouth confessed Him as Lord?
