JEHOVAH KEEPETH THE SIMPLE” (Psalm 116: 6)

The christian is to be a simple person. His eye is to be simple. The call of Christ, “Follow thou me” (John 21: 22) is intended to have a wonderfully simplifying effect on his life. He has now one Object, who is to become the governing Centre in every sphere of life in which he moves. So we are to be delivered from the complication, and maybe the sophistication, of life which would rob the Lord of our simple devotion to Him, and rob us of the joy of being here simply for His will. As good soldiers let us not entangle ourselves with the affairs of life, that we may please Him who has enlisted us as soldiers (see 2 Timothy 2: 4).

DELIVERANCE

What a wonderful deliverance it is to be set free from the tremendous power of “the law of sin which exists in my members” and “the law of sin and of death” (Romans 7: 23; 8: 2), and to be governed by an entirely new power and principle, “the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8: 2). If you could imagine the moon being detached from the earth and set in orbit around some other planet, its situation and movements would now be wholly governed by its new centre. It would have no relation to the earth, and the earth would no longer influence it. So the believer has no more obligation to the flesh. He is held by the Spirit in his new relation to Christ, and the Spirit becomes the Source of life, power, and control.
