“BE YE READY”

(Matthew 24: 44)

J. Stenhouse

Ready, whether young or old;

“Be ye ready”, we are told;

Ready for t’will not be long,

Whether weak or whether strong.

Ready, when the morning shines,

Also when day declines.

Ready when the noon is bright,

Also in the silent night.

Ready when our skies are blue

And when they are cloudy too.

Ready if in joy or pain,

Thinking of eternal gain.

Whether we’re in peace or strife,

Ready—ready all our life.

Ready for the Saviour’s voice;

Let this be our blessed choice.

Ready for the coming day,

Ready for eternity.

Bathurst, N.S.W.

We are grateful to some readers who have told us that Mr. J. H. Lewis was the author of the poem ‘Fragrance for Christ’, published in the May 1985 issue. The poem was based on an experience in a Swedish forest. Our brother was a frequent visitor to Sweden in the early decades of this century—Ed.
