THE WORSHIP OF THE SON

John in his gospel presents the Lord Jesus immediately as an object of worship—“the Word was with God, and the Word was God”, John 1: 1. Throughout his gospel the verity of the Lord’s manhood and of His deity are wondrously put together, for example, in the Lord’s own reference in chapter 3 to “the Son of man who is in heaven” (John 3: 13), and then in chapter 6—“If then ye see the Son of man ascending up where he was before” (John 6: 62). He who speaks of Himself as Son of man is both truly Man and truly God. Paul speaks thus of the Christ, “who is over all, God blessed for ever”, Romans 9: 5. He has taken His place at the right hand of the greatness on high. The blind man in John 9, then seeing, worships Him when here in blood and flesh. Thomas worships Him in resurrection, exclaiming, “My Lord and my God”, John 20: 28. It is our privilege to worship Him now upon the throne, as it says, “for he is thy Lord, and worship thou him”, Psalm 45: 11.
