TAKE THE PLUNGE! It was instructive to watch the progress of a family of young coots on a lake. At first the hungry chicks were constantly fed by their parents who dived to get food from the bed of the lake. Then the young birds began to make their first brave efforts to dive themselves, though they could not stay under for long. But soon they became quite expert and were getting most of their food for themselves.
It is the same in spiritual things. When we are young we depend largely on our parents’ help, and then we learn the value of being together with the saints and being nourished by what others bring out. But as we grow we need to feed for ourselves, to learn to ‘dive’ and discover the nourishing and satisfying things there are to be enjoyed. A boy of ten told me he was reading Proverbs when he went to bed—what a good way to close the day!
As you grow older read all you can in the Scriptures and begin to dip into the many most helpful books containing ministry which the Lord has given. You will find it enjoyable and it will build you up with spiritual substance which in due time the Lord will use for the help of others.
