A PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE
G. H. Brown
Father, we humbly seek
That Thou in wisdom wilt direct our way,
For Thou almighty art and we are weak,
And oft our footsteps stray!
In every storm and stress
O guide and guard us by Thy powerful hand
Throughout this waste and arid wilderness
Of ever-shifting sand.
And yet we surely learn
The desert is not pathless when we trace
Thy faithful guidance and Thy ways discern
Of never-failing grace.
The feet of Jesus here
Have marked the track where He Himself has been,
And we may follow where His steps appear
Across this barren scene.
A path Thou hast ordained
Wherein our pilgrim feet may safely tread,
So keep us close to Thee, through faith sustained
And by Thy Spirit led
Until that cloudless morn
When we no more shall tread the desert way—
When with enraptured hearts we greet the dawn
Of Thine unending day!
