MUSINGS

“PRAISE WAITETH FOR THEE IN SILENCE” The opening words of Psalm 65 no doubt look forward to the glorious millennial revival of the praises of God in Zion; as the hymn says, ‘Yet wider praise in Zion waits for Thee, her Lord and King’. They could also refer to the moments of powerful silence before the service of old began. All would be assembled—the singers, the musicians, the great congregation. All would be ready, and a reverent, holy calm would descend as the moment for the service to commence approached. It would be a silence of power. To use an illustration, if an orchestra were to perform at a given hour, each musician would be in his place, each instrument at concert pitch. Then at the set time all would move into action.

All this bears on the very important matter of how we assemble. We come together for supreme privilege in our assemblings. Each occasion has some relation to the service of God; each relates to the sphere where God Himself dwells and moves. Therefore it becomes us to assemble with preparation, punctuality, reverence, and dignity, so that, under divine impulse, we may move as one into the service.
