COME, LORD JESUS
R. S. Renton
Lord Jesus, Thou art coming soon
To take us home with Thee
Blest prospect for the longing heart
Thyself, blest Lord to see.
Our eyes will gaze with wonder filled
Thy glory to behold,
The One to whom our all we owe
What treasures will unfold.
The prospect keeps us bright with joy
As quickened by Thy love,
Each day we wonder will it be
We’ll be with Thee above.
But oh, Lord Jesus, now we think
What it will be for Thee
To have th’assembly with Thyself
From sin and danger free.
Although we have Thyself not seen,
Our love for Thee we know,
Thy Spirit makes divine things real
And makes our praises flow.
To see Thee vindicated here
And publicly acclaimed,
Lord Jesus this we wait with joy
Of us Thou’rt not ashamed.
To see Thee reign from shore to shore
All kings shall bow to Thee
Thy Name shall be on every tongue
And all Thy glory see.
The wondrous triumphs of Thy love
Securing us for Thee
Will fill the courts of heaven above
With worship—hearts now free.
Our witness for Thee while we wait
May brighter, stronger be
Our sojourn here about to end
Until Thy face we see.
So keep us steady and alert
To watch and wait for Thee
Our eyes undimmed to look above
Lord Jesus, Thee to see.
