MEETING THE ENEMY

Satan will try to ensnare us. He will try to capture us. He will try to rob God of the portion that He has a right to in each of the souls of His own; ... but whatever the form of his attack, we have got to learn to meet him. The way we meet the devil, dear brethren, is by just maintaining what is right. Overcoming in spiritual things is not a matter of something heroic, it is a matter simply of not surrendering or compromising what is right. And God’s support and the support of the Spirit are proved as we are on that line. You remember how the Lord met the devil in the wilderness. He did not meet him with divine power, but He simply met him in a way that is proper to a man. He says “It is written” and He would not allow for a moment any departure from what was written, and He met Satan on these lines, that He maintained what was right in a man in His relations with God, and Satan was thus completely defeated.
