TEACH US TO NUMBER OUR DAYS”, Psalm 90: 12. Every day of the Christian’s life is intended to be full of what is for God’s pleasure. Each should be full of praise—“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise continually to God, that is, the fruit of the lips confessing his name”, Hebrews 13: 15. How delightful to God is the constant outflowing of the saints’ appreciation of Christ! And as we think of the aboundings of God’s mercy and grace how much there is for which to praise Him. Then our lives are to be full of thanksgiving—“Giving thanks at all times for all things to him who is God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”, Ephesians 5: 20. Giving thanks for our food provides happy occasions for communion with the Father (How easily we drop into what is formal!), but how wide is the thought of giving thanks for all things. In everything we can find some cause for thanksgiving.

Then every part of our lives is to be related to the Lord. “Everything, whatever ye may do in word or in deed, do all things in the name of the Lord Jesus”, and again, “Whatsoever ye do, labour at it heartily, as doing it to the Lord, and not to men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the recompense ...”, Colossians 3: 17, 23. Everything the believer touches can be, and should be, lustred with the glory of its being done to Him. If I cannot do something to Him, let me not do it.

Surpassingly rich and full were the days of Jesus! They stand alone—the manna treasured in the golden pot. But our days too are to be rich for heaven’s delight. It is all part of “the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints”, Ephesians 1: 18.
