DARK AND DREARY
But is there not in this world so dreary
A prospect bright for the sad and weary?
A hope to cheer in the darkest days,
Dispersing gloom by its brighter rays,
When the day is dark and dreary?
Ah, yes! though sad with grief and sorrow,
We hope and look for a bright tomorrow,
Our ears have heard of a world above,
Where all is rest, and peace, and love,
If all down here is dreary.
Our ears have heard of a home in heaven
Prepared by Christ and by Him now given
Through faith, to all who know His love,
Our home is now in heaven above!
Where nought is dark or dreary!
Though here for a time in this world so dreary,
We journey, and by its trials are weary,
Our hearts cling not to the mouldering past
The way is long, but it ends at last
Where rest awaits the weary!
And so with hope which is bright and cheering,
We tread our way, and are daily nearing
Home with comfort, joy and peace,
Every trouble then will cease,
And all be past that’s dreary!
