MY HEART

J. Gray

O Lord, Thou art waiting in patience on me,

My heart’s inner chamber to open to Thee,

Its many apartments are freely disposed,

Except, Lord, the door of the throne-room’s still closed.

O Lord, I am longing to grant Thy request;

Yea, oft have I welcomed Thee in as a Guest;

But now be Thou Master, in charge of my heart;

To serve as a bondman be my willing part.

Thou art o’er earth’s circle as Sovereign supreme,

Then why not my heart, which Thy blood did redeem?

Yet not on the circle, but nearer as known;

Oh sit at the centre, as King on the throne.

“My son, give me thy heart”, Proverbs 23: 26. “My son, attend to my words … keep them in the midst of thy heart”, Proverbs 4: 20, 21. “Confide in Jehovah with all thy heart”, Proverbs 3: 5. “Blessed are they ... that seek him with the whole heart”, Psalm 119: 2.
