THE ASSEMBLY FIT FOR CHRIST

Ephesians 5: 25–27 presents two thoughts as to what the assembly is to be—first, glorious, and then, holy and blameless. As glorious, she is fit for Christ, the One who is glorified. The disciples beheld His glory on the mount of transfiguration, but we will be presented glorious, fit in every way for the exalted Man. As to our histories individually, we have been brought from the lowest place, but are wondrously elevated and made to inherit a throne of glory (1 Samuel 2: 8). The queen in Psalm 45 is all glorious within and as such is suited to the King, the subject of the psalm.

As holy and blameless, the assembly would be fit to have part with Christ, the true Minister of the sanctuary, the Holy One of God. God’s service demands holiness. Being holy we are suited to His presence, as Ephesians 1 indicates, “holy and blameless before him in love”

(Ephesians 1: 4), which is His purpose for us and the level to which Christ in His devoted love to the assembly has brought us, so that, with Him, we might serve God.
