THE HOLY SPIRIT
D. R. Freeman
Who first to me revealed
That I in darkness lay;
A sinner unconcealed
To God’s all-searching ray?
Thou, Holy Spirit. Thou wast He
Who sin’s conviction brought to me.
Who then to me didst show
The Saviour’s wounded side;
That I His love could know,
And in Himself could hide?
Blest Holy Spirit, Thou it wast
That told salvation to the lost.
Who bade me look above;
From self to Christ to flee?
Who told that mercy, love
Were in God’s heart for me?
O, blessed Holy Spirit, Thou
Dost witness to forgiveness now.
Who came to shed within
God’s boundless love to me?
Who keeps me free from sin
Till Jesus’ face I see?
Thou, blessed Holy Spirit, art
The One who fills with joy my heart.
Who teaches me to pray,
And guides my steps aright?
Who leads me in His way
All through earth’s dreary night?
Most Holy Spirit, Thou wast giv’n
Our Comforter and Guide to heav’n.
Who us shall never leave
When time’s for ever past?
Who shall full praise receive
When Jesus comes at last?
O Holy Spirit, with the Son
And Father Thou art ever One!
