IT HAS GIVEN ME HOPE’ This was the comment of a drug addict after a conversation with the Princess of Wales (Diana) when she visited a drug clinic in London. She entered feelingly into his history and problems and he said afterwards, ‘It has given me hope that someone like her can care about people like me’. That is an affecting incident, but is it not a little picture of the incomparably greater grace and condescension of our Lord Jesus who went so low to make our burdens His own? Now glorified, He is the same, and all along the Christian path, with the tests, sorrows and temptations which face us in the time of His absence, in the world which has rejected Him. He is near to be confided in. We can tell Him everything and find peace, comfort and joy as we prove afresh the blessedness of His unchanging love and grace, and His personal interest in each one of His own. Like the subject of our incident, we can say it gives us fresh strength and hope that One so great as He cares about us. Peter says, “Having cast all your care upon him, for he cares about you”, 1 Peter 5: 7.
