“LONG ENOUGH” (Deuteronomy 1: 6; 2: 3)
D. R. Freeman
“Long enough”—the word has sounded!
Desert days will soon be done;
Christ will take His loved ones homeward
To the rest that He has won.
No more wandering and thirsting;
All earth’s lessons will be o’er;
We shall taste those springs eternal
In His presence evermore.
“Long enough” we’ve wandered homeless
As upon a foreign land;
Howling winds have oft blown o’er us;
Nought could take us from His hand,
But the journey soon is ending;
Christ in glory will appear;
God will make our toil forgotten,
Wipe away then every tear.
“Long enough”—the skies are opening;
Christ descends to meet His own.
We no more are backward looking,
But ahead to glory’s crown.
In a moment, changed, we’ll enter
On that blissful, endless day;
Christ for us is coming quickly,
And His church ‘Amen’ doth say.
