TWO OR THREE

 

Lord! Let us meet with two or three,

Gathered by grace alone to Thee!

Where Thine own Name and presence blest

Speak life and love to every breast!

 

Not with the solemn pomp and show,

Where mullioned windows deeply glow,

Where incense floats, and many a wave

From sounding pipe rolls down the nave.

 

Not there! But let it rather be

Some upper chamber known to Thee!

There shall be spread a feast divine –

A table, with the bread and wine.

 

And there, to faith, in heavenly lines,

A golden sanctuary shines;

O scene beyond all thought and sight,

Where all is joy and peace and light!

 

For where we see Thy glorious face

We enter the most holy place;

Lord, may we rest where two or three

Are gathered only unto Thee!
