“THE DEPTHS OF GOD” There are wondrous facts as to God which in His grace He makes simple and plain in the gospel so that we may understand them. ..But there are also “the depths of God”. (1 Corinthians 2: 10)—indeed everything relating to God is infinite. So as we explore what reaches us in the gospel, such as God’s love and grace and righteousness, we find ourselves in wonderful depths. God loves to see us interested in His deep things, indeed they are spoken of as the things “which God has prepared for them that love him”, 1

Corinthians 2: 9. How wonderful that He has prepared them for us! Psalm 33: 3 says, “He layeth up the deeps in storehouses”. God has not put His things beyond our reach, but has laid them, up so that interested persons may explore and enjoy them. This involves the blessed fact that all that can be known of God is in Christ, in whom dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily (Colossians 2: 9). We can say that God has laid up His treasures in a Man.

How attractive—and how readily available they have thus become! More than that, He has given us the Holy Spirit, the Custodian of these riches, He who searches the depths of God and guides us into all the truth. So let us call upon His help, as Jeremiah 33: 3 says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and I will show thee great and hidden things”.
