GOD’S WORKING IN US
The last word that our brother gave us in a meeting for ministry not many months ago was about the potter (Jer.18:4); he likened that to God working in us. That is what should be happening in our souls today, that we are conscious that God is working, drawing attention to the solemnity of this occasion, yet the triumph of it. How wonderful it is that God works in your soul and mine. Are you conscious of God working in your heart? Think of the divine hand working, the gentleness of God’s touches. The hands of the potter as he makes the vessel are very sensitive. The Lord Jesus is sensitive; His work in us is going on and He is very sensitive. He knows where we are, what we need, and our brother proved that.
This scripture came to me when I first heard about his home-going, that God’s work in him was complete. He was one who had been through many trials but God’s work was complete – the Lord was pleased with what He had accomplished. These are wonderful things to have in our hearts. Our brother has spoken about the believer’s hope. What a great matter that you can have that hope in your heart, involving that death is not the end, but rather the continuation of a living link with the Lord Jesus, the One who is working in us.
Beloved, may each of us take account of divine work in us. Stop and think about the solemnity of that work going on. Am I hindering it, or am I fostering it, am I taking advantage of it? Am I conscious that there is that touch of the Potter’s hand to get rid of those blemishes, those little irksome things that arise. Oh, how God works to bring about an answer that is suited to Himself. And He has done that. He does it and He works in us individually, but the Lord Jesus also finds an answer collectively. He has found it in His assembly; He nourishes it and cherishes it that He might present it to Himself all blameless (Eph.5:27,29). That is a work soon to be complete, every blemish removed and the perfection of what is secured through the work of divine Persons seen in its glory. God will complete it unto that day. The Christian’s heart can anticipate that wonderful day when the Lord will give His assembling shout.
May we all be comforted, especially our sister and the family, by the preciousness of the link that our brother had with his Saviour, and may we cherish these things, for His name’s sake.
