Obviously something had transpired in the counsel chamber of

Satan, and this is going on all the time. The god and prince of

this world is not inactive, he is seeking all the time to subvert

and hinder divine operations. What I want to encourage you

young brethren in is to see that you can have a part in divine

operations. The Spirit of God would touch your heart,

particularly with this precious incident when Moses, cared for

by his parents, was placed in the sedge on the bank of the

river.

For the sake of the parents, could I touch on this point of what

the mother did, that “she took for him an ark of reeds, and

plastered it with resin and with pitch, and put the child in it, and

laid it in the sedge on the bank of the river” (Exodus 2: 3). Now

she did not put the child right into mid-stream. That is a very

essential word for us these days. Young people have to make

a living; we appreciate that; and I often think, as to what was

said this afternoon as to the collection, that if the brethren

were not in a position to make a living the work of God would

be hindered as far as the work of the ministry was concerned.

But the important matter is not to put our young people into

mid-stream. Put them in “the sedge on the bank of the river”.

That is in an area where they can be watched over. It is not

too desirable a thing when young people are out of the

immediate observance of their parents and the brethren. I say

that by the way. I know the concern that these matters cause

parents. Our young people are a treasure to be valued, every

one of them. It is an uplift to my spirit that in days such as we

are in the young people come and gather with the saints and

enjoy the blessings of hearing the word of God. But we have to

pray for them and be vigilant.

And then, “his sister stood afar off to see what would happen

to him”. No doubt she loved that boy, “He was fair”, he was

lovely, and Miriam, who would be in mind here, would love the

boy. She would love him for his potentiality in the testimony.
