spiritual bond is a greater, bond than what we have naturally in
a family. In the divine family there is this constant care for one
another. So she “called the child’s mother” and she took the
child away. Through that link in the chain the way was
prepared for the education and the development of this great
minister. I can visualise Miriam afterwards, as she saw Moses
standing up in prophetic power in the midst of Israel, feeling a
sense of deep gratitude to God that she had a part in his
preservation. Dear young people, what service you can render
to one another in preservation from the world, from Egypt!
So in Samuel; again it was a critical time. David was rejected
and Absalom was on the ascendancy. He had Ahithophel as
his counsellor in this matter, and then there was Hushai,
Zadok and Abiathar the priest. It is a wonderful consideration,
beloved brethren, that in these days of apostasy, which
Absalom represents, God has that down here which in its
wisdom and skill overthrows the evil principles of the apostasy.
It was a critical time and very soon the issue was going to be
settled and Jonathan and Ahimaaz of the priestly family were
involved in this. It says “the maid went and told them”. It was a
critical time and God had this maid available to convey divine
intelligence to these men. Now, are the young people in this
gathering tonight like that? Could the Lord use you as a means
of communication of His mind to those who are faithful and
loyal to His interests here? Young people have a great
opportunity. This maid is called ‘ the maid’—as far as I know
this is the only reference to her in Scripture. If it had said, ‘a
maid’ I could have understood it, but it does not say that, it
says
“the maid”, as if to single her out. One loyal heart, one person,
that has the divine interests in her heart, “the maid”.
Could heaven look down and say tonight, ‘There
is a person loyal to David, prepared to risk her life in defence
of the testimony at the present time’? Loyalty to Christ is the
