THE SPIRIT’S PRESENT VOICE

W. Ray

John 14: 15–23

The Lord here is leaving His own; He is concerned as to them. He is showing them the way of life—how they will be kept, by keeping His commandments. He says, “And I will beg the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him nor know him”.

It is a very wonderful thing that, as we speak here, we are in the presence of a divine Person, the same as if the Lord were actually here personally— God is here. The Lord here was thinking positively of this present time, when another Comforter, One like Himself, would be here to make Him known.

So the Holy Spirit was sent, coming forth from with the Father and the Son. After the Lord went up on high three divine Persons had ten days together—ten glorious days together—Christ, in resurrection power with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Then the Holy Spirit came down, freighted with the glory of that blessed One. He is ready and He is available—and He is concerned to make that One known.

Now time is short and it behoves us to make way for the Holy Spirit that we may learn from Him, lean upon Him, and relate our lives to Him, and see how He would help us and bring us into life now. There is power with the Spirit; His voice is being heard in a very distinctive and definite way today. The Spirit speaks in the latter days; “the Spirit speaks expressly”, 1 Timothy 4: 1. He is speaking today, and His speaking is in relation to the coming of Christ.

Christ is about to take His bride; He is about to come. The Holy Spirit is urging—He is speaking very clearly as to the fact that the Lord is about to come to take us. I would urge that we should just give ourselves to the Holy Spirit, to allow Him to have His way with us, that we might be so formed now as to be pleasing to Him here, and to minister now to Christ, while we are waiting for Him to come. Amen.
