STRENGTH GIVEN BEFORE THE DEMAND

STRENGTH GIVEN BEFORE THE DEMAND

You have been much on my heart before the Lord since last Wednesday. I am comforted with the assurance that He will lead your heart into the full vigour of life outside this scene of death. Stephen was led into this before a single stone reached him. This is the manner of God’s ways with us — to provide us with suited strength before the demand on us has come. Surely He will give you faith as to this. Now I do not like to speak of my faith, but He comforts me in this way with regard to you. Your suffering is not confined to yourself, your dear husband and others are in their degree fellow-sufferers. It is, I believe, His way with you to make sure in your soul the truth He has taught you, and though in a different yet certainly not in a less suffering way, it is so with your dear husband. Surely the blessed Lord is much taken up [p. 180] with you both at this time and for deep blessing. I am so glad I went to see you, though I had no idea that there was so much of sorrow before me. It did me great good. Where is there real rest but on the other side of Jordan?

Though it is but little one knows of the love of Christ, yet what an interest it gives one for those of His own whom one is closely bound up with.
