PEACE
A. C. Craig
The world recedes, its glory fades away,
The night is past, we hail the coming day;
We wait for Jesus, bright and morning Star,
Whose heavenly beams enlighten from afar.
Blest Sun of righteousness! He comes to bless,
With healing in His wings, establish peace;
To break the yoke and lead all into rest,
And feed His flock by waters still and blest.
And wider yet to men both far and near,
Remove all death, its bondage and its fear,
Shine in new covenant glory, giving life;
The nations all at peace, no war nor strife.
The blessing will extend yet wider still,
Creation, all long subject to man’s will,
Set free from bondage and its heavy load,
Will know the freedom of the sons of God.
And then the end, and God’s eternal day,
With heavens anew and earth in concert stay;
His tabernacle too with men will dwell,
And God Himself shall every bosom fill.
