📖 Berean Ministry

based on one sacrifice. It does not need to be repeated and we know that because of what it says, “But he, having offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down in perpetuity at the right hand of God”. Christ “sat down”; as others have said, the priests in the old dispensation did not sit down because their work was never finished, they were always offering these sacrifices. But think of how great the work of Christ is: “having offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down in perpetuity at the right hand of God”. That expression “having sat down in perpetuity” may be difficult to understand, but it alludes to the greatness of the work of Christ and how it continues in its effect and always will continue. There is no end to the greatness of what the Lord Jesus has accomplished, for it stands in all its glory. Think of the shedding of the precious blood of Jesus and how it stands before God in its perfection and its greatness and its ability to save, and it only needed to be shed once. I have been affected by that, dear brethren, that there was one sacrifice for sins and it can cleanse you, it can save you if you will come to Christ. There is not another sacrifice. It will not be repeated, it could not be, it does not need to be. Jesus has offered one sacrifice for sin, and He has sat down in perpetuity, and it says, “For by one offering he has perfected in perpetuity the sanctified”.

How great that is, how permanent! The work of Christ, the one sacrifice for sins, has satisfied God’s holy claims. He has left nothing outstanding before God, and His work is presented in the glad tidings for your acceptance by faith that you might accept the Lord Jesus and His precious finished work for yourself, so that you might have “boldness for entering into the holy of holies by the blood of Jesus”. That blood having been shed gives us liberty for entrance into the very presence of God Himself. But first of all, are you sheltering under the blood of Christ? We were reminded in the preaching recently of the destroying angel coming through the land of Egypt: if the blood was on the doorpost and on the lintel, those who were inside those houses were sheltered (Exod.12). Are you sheltering under the precious blood of Christ? How great is this sacrifice; it was offered once and it will not have to be repeated. May you be in the peace and joy of knowing your sins are forgiven and that you are cleansed by the precious blood of Christ. God is satisfied with that work, as He showed by raising the Lord Jesus from the dead, and you can be satisfied too. The hymn writer says:

‘God is satisfied with Jesus,

We are satisfied as well’      Hymn 410.

Is that your portion, dear hearer? Are you satisfied? If you have come to Christ, you can know your sins forgiven, and know that the greatness of what He has accomplished is for you. You can have the joy and the peace and the blessing of it.

I read the last scripture because there is another very extensive reference in it. Paul says that God has granted the Lord Jesus a Name that is above every name and that every knee will bow to that Name. Think of how extensive that is; no one is going to be excluded from that. There may be persons who will not bow the knee to Jesus in the present time, but they will in a day to come – that is how extensive it is. It says, “heavenly and earthly and infernal beings, and every tongue” – none excluded – every tongue will “confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to God the Father’s glory.” As we have often been told in the preaching, the gospel goes out that we might bow the knee to Jesus now, that we might recognise the greatness and the preciousness of that Name which is greater than every name. How precious the name of Jesus is. Is it precious to you? Have you found that there is no Name so precious and so great as the name of Jesus, the One who was prepared to come here to be your Saviour and to suffer and to die? His Name is above every name – no
