THE BELIEVER’S HOPE (Romans 8: 23)
J. H. Mutton *
Oh how my inmost soul doth long
Its rest, its liberty,
To sing in power the eternal song
Of glory unto Thee.
Yet fast that day is drawing near
When we shall with Thee be,
Our spirits then no more depressed
Shall burst in praise to Thee.
O happy morn! O blissful day!
What joy for us and Thee!
Thy bride from every grief away
Shall rest in peace with Thee.
O Lord, with joy we wait that day
When Thou shalt have Thy part,
A full, a living, joyful song,
True praise from every heart.
* Composed at the end of 1922, during a painful illness. The author went to be with the Lord seven months later at the age of 22.
