OUR DEFENDER
“If God be for us, who against us?”, Romans 8: 31
G. H. Brown
Though our faith be sorely tried,
Though the tempest rages,
Still our peaceful hearts confide
In the Rock of ages.
He who dwells in light alone,
‘Throned in holy splendour,
Yet in Jesus now made known—
God—is our Defender!
What though heavy be our load,
He our burden lightens;
Every step along the road
His compassion brightens.
Never let us faint nor fail,
Falter nor surrender;
Strong in faith we must prevail—
God is our Defender!
Though the skies be overcast,
Though the shadows lengthen,
Earth’s dark night will soon be past,
God our hearts shall strengthen.
Still through all we trust in Him,
Prove His mercies tender;
Though our path be drear and dim,
God is our Defender!
Thus in God alone we boast,
Nought from Him shall sever—
Father, Son and Holy Ghost—
