universally, because this goes on to the whole universal idea.
Think of the glory of this building!
It is growing. We are in something that is not going to peter
out. It is growing, increasing, “to a holy temple in the Lord”. It is
growing all the time, right through this dispensation, and goes
into the next one. The “holy temple in the Lord” has a certain
millennial setting.
Everything then will be clear and understandable. I think that is
the idea of the temple, that you understand things in the
temple. And the assembly will be that. She will be a great
vessel in the world to come. Every answer for men will be in
the assembly, in the heavenly city.
Then it says, “in whom ye also are built together for a
habitation of God in the Spirit”. It is a wonderful thing that God
can take delight in His own work, that is, in the saints being
built together. What a privilege, beloved brethren, we have as
related to Christ, related to the foundation, and to Christ as the
corner-stone, having part in this universal vessel in which God
can dwell in the Spirit.
Then we come to Zechariah which brings out the greatness of
unlimited divine resource.
Zechariah
was a young man. You may think of prophets as being old
men with long beards, but Zechariah was not old. He was a
young man who was interested in divine things. So much so
that there was a divine message sent on his behalf, “Run,
speak to this young man”
(Zechariah 2: 4). You think of that! Think of being interesting to
heaven, because of your interest in divine things. A message
was sent. Think of heaven looking on, seeing this young man
Zechariah who was concerned about Jerusalem. He lived in a
