... [p. 382] You sing my hymns because you believe they express thoughts which were divinely given. We all sing hymns written by Christians with whom, if they were still alive, we should be quite unable to walk in fellowship. Their hymns were good and Spirit-taught. But their doctrines, associations and practices were, in many instances, so contrary to Scripture that, as having light from God, we could not walk with them. We gladly accredit them, and all saints, with what we can discern in them that is of God, as we believe the Lord does. But we do not walk in fellowship with what is contrary to the truth, because the assembly is the pillar and base of the truth, not a corrupt mixture of truth and error. And we believe that, in taking this course, we are rendering the greatest possible service to those who go on with a mixture of light and darkness.

It is a comfort to know that every one who gets a place in the Father’s house will have passed the judgment seat of Christ, and will have His estimate of everything in his responsible course. I shall be glad to know when I have missed the Lord’s mind, and also why I missed it. And the thought of this intensifies my desire to be near enough to Him now not to miss His mind.

If saints do not walk together in the Christian fellowship you may be sure that some question of truth or error enters into the matter. Great principles involving the order and constitution of the assembly of God are not to be lightly brushed aside as “isms”.
